  • Notes
    • Norma was named after the heroine in the opera, Norma. Her mother had been reading it at the time. She moved to Michigan at age 10 where she went to school.
A doctor had told Norma to get out of the cold climate in Michigan (she had had Pneumonia three times) so she came to Los Angeles, California to live with her Aunt Emma and Uncle William Carr in 1914. She shared a bedroom with their daughter,
Edna, who was six years younger than Norma.
Although her Campbell ancestry descended from Torys (during the American Revolution), Norma adamantly denied it, despite rumors of an attic in Canada that was full of red coats and muskets.
Norma was active in civic and club affairs in Los Angeles, serving two terms as president of the Friday Morning Club, and, in 1973, was made President Emeritus. She also served as the president of the South Pasadena Women's Club. She later
became a member of the Santa Barbara Womens Club and was active in her church. She loved to read and to garden.
