Affidavit to claim of Catherine Lee’s 1812 Widow’s Pension:
[Catherine Lee the claimant] never married prior to her marriage to Joel Lee, deceased. My husband, Joel Lee, was married before his marriage to me. His first wife died in the year 1844 and in the year 1845 he married me. Joel Lee, my deceased husband, died June 4, 1863. He would have been 85 years old the 10th day of August of that year had he have lived to that time. My recollection is that he received a bounty land warrant and cash given . . . date. My husband always "made his mark." I don't think he could write his name.
