  Mrs. Bishir was the Mayor of Hadley, Minn. in 1940. -------- Town’s Woman Mayor Puts Lid on Whoopee Hadley, Minn. -- Nights are now quiet and peaceful in this village of 175 because there’s a mayoress in charge. Before Mrs. Jesse Bishir was elected to office, the celebrants used to come from miles around to raise whoopee till morn. But Mrs. Bishir cracked down on the celebrants and ordered taverns closed by midnight. Says the woman mayor: “I’m not Carrie Nation, but I’ve often said I’d like to be a man for a while.” [3]
