- RESEARCH:
Jane is listed with her parents in 1850, aged 10. She is not with them in 1860, although we think the “James Bishir” listed in that census is actually Jane. From this point on we are not sure the Jane Bishir’s we track below are connected to the daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth Bishir.
In 1870, a Jane Bishir, aged 26, appears in Dodson Twp., Highland Co., Ohio, living with Jane Ruse (who is 50).
In 1880 a Jane Bishir, dressmaker, is listed in Lynchburg with her son, Edgar, aged 19. Her age is about right, and the birthplaces of her parents match those of Jonathan and Elizabeth Bishir. Her son lists his father as having been born in Indiana. He does not appear in the 1870 census for some reason.
A Jane Bishir had an illigitimate son in 1882 in Lynchburg, Ohio, listed as “Elow” or “Elsa” in the birth record.
A Jane Bishir married S. Ravenscroft, 22 Jan 1883, Highland Co., Ohio. who is later listed as a "Grass Widow" in Lynchburg in 1885. We were not able to find any Jane Ravenscroft after that. A 1927 death certificate for a Samuel Ravenscroft, an inmate of the Infirmery, exists indicating that he was born about 1841. Clifford lists his father as “Samuel Bisher” on his second marriage application - it’s likely his father was Samuel Ravenscroft.
In 1900 A Jane Bishir appears in Cincinnati with her son, Clifford E. Bishir (whose birth month and year match “Elsa” in the 1882 birth record) and she says her father was born in Germany and her mother in Virginia. She is listed as Divorced. Clifford lists his occupation as proprietor of a Feed Stall. Jane lists only one child who is living - she apparently did not acknowledge Edgar b. 1861 by this time?
Clifford E. Bisher’s marriage licenses in 1906 and 1912 list his mother as Jane Ravenscroft.
Jane Bisher’s death certificate for Cincinnati lists her as divorced and her father as “John Bisher” (which corresponds to Jonathan Bishir) and her mother as “Mary Bisher” which does not correspond to Elizabeth. Her son is the informant and he lists the birthplaces of Jane’s parents as Germany. [9]
