- The family name is variously spelled as Cassaday, Cassady, and Cassada. In fact, the Cassada spelling has been carried down to the present day in one of the lines. The original Irish spelling may have been Casedise.

Will of William Cassady, 1794 - Halifax Co. VA
September Court 1794
In the name of God Amen I William Casady of Halifax County Being of Sound memory and knowing
the uncertianty death do make this my Last Will and Testament as to wit.
First I give my soul to God the gave it and my body to the Ground to be decently buried and my
funeral Charges to be paid ???
Item 2 my desire is that all my just debts be paid
Item 3 I give and bequeath to my two sons the Land where on I live to be Equally divided John
Casaday to own that part where he now Lives. James Casaday to own that part where on he lives
to them and their heirs forever
Item 4. I give and bequeath to my Grand Daughter Sally Owen one Cow and her increase the Cow's
name is Flower to her and heirs.
Item 5. I give and bequeath to my Beloved wife Ann Cassaday one cow and her increase, one
feather bed, and furniture with all my house hold and kitchen furniture and at her death to
dispose of property as she shall find proper.
Item I hereby ??? and appoint my friend Francis Shelton to be the Executor of this my last Will
and Testament.

This Court held for Halifax County the 22nd of September 1794 The within Last Will and
Testament of William Cassady and was presented in court and found by the oath of two witnesses
There to be the Act and Will of Said Cassady and was ordered to be recorded. And on the motion
of Francis Shelton the Executor therein named who made oath there to According to law and
together with Decker Owen his Security ??? and acknowledged their bond is the penalty of one
hundred pounds Condition the law direct Certificate for obtaining probate thereof in due form
of law is granted him
