  • Notes
    • From History of Cooper County: “The ancestry of this branch of the Lee family traces back to the Lees of Virginia and thence to Ireland. Col. Phil Lee, an uncle of C. A. Lee, fought in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. A. H. Lee, father of C. A. Lee, was born in 1808 and died on April 5, 1863. He came to Missouri from Kentucky in 1830, and drove a freighting outfit from St. Louis to Old Franklin for a number of years and later engaged in farming. He was father of nine children, of whom C. A. Lee is the only one living.”

He is listed in Howard Co., Missouri in 1830 with his wife and 3 daughters and 2 slaves. The family was living in Chanton, Howard Co. Missouri in 1840 and 1850. They are listed with Susan Simmons (age 18) and Wm. Simmons (age 11) as well in 1850. Possibly guardianships or children of a previous marriage. There are 3 slaves listed in the 1840 census.
