Information from Michelle Allan (gg-granddaughter) 2012:
Isaac Newton Denning enlisted on August 12, 1862 as a Private in the Union Army. He claimed his residence at Ornargo, Illinois. He served in the 113 Illinois Infantry Company D. He received a disability discharge on May 28, 1863 . (source: Illinois Roster of Officers and Enlisted Men.Published in 1900. Taken from Ancestry.com)

Isaac is buried with his wife Ann Ellison and there is no A on the end on the tombstonebut that does not mean it is right as I am sure you know.. Isaac has two stones and one also says that Isaac was a member of the 113th Ill. Inf. Co. D. They are buried in Winfield, Kansas so I am assuming they died there. I know that my grandmother was born in Winfield so they did have a connection there since one of their sons lived there. Thank you for the information on his parents. Like I said, I could not get any farther than him and gave up for awhile to search out other lines. I have looked for awhile on Ann Ellison and have had no luck. There are several census records with her name and I may have found her in one but I am thinking it is an orphanage or something because there are a bunch of kids names in a long list. I will have to look into that.

The Winfield Tribune (Winfield, Kansas), 6 Feb 1903, Fri, Page 5
      Death of Newton Denning.

Mr. Newton Denning, an old and respected citizen of Cowley county, died at his home east of Obseratory mound about five o’clock Friday morning of cancer of the stomach.

Mr. Denning and family came to Cowley county over twenty years ago and Mr. Denning settled on a neat farm on Grouse creek, where he resided until moving to Winfield. About a year ago he met with a serious accident in a runaway and it is thought that the injuries then received greatly aggravated the cancer trouble and hastened his death. He was seventy years old. He leaves a wife and four children, Grace and Marvin Denning, who reside here, Arthur Denning and Mrs. Mary Duncan, of Lawton, Oklahoma. He also leaves two brothers, Walter Denning, of this city, and Will Denning, of Baldwin. All members were with him when he passed away.

The funeral occurred Sunday morning at eleven o’clock from the United Brethern Church, of which he as a member. Rev. Rosen spoke the words of comfort to the bereaved family and a large gathering of friends. Interment was made in Union cemetery.
