      Elda Beth Roberts Observes Birthday.
Twenty little friends of Elda Beth Roberts helped her celebrate her seventh birthday anniversary at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Roberts, in Eastwood Park Saturday afternoon.
After playing several amusing games on the lawn the little folks were seated at a table bright with Valentine hearts and favors.
Clever little Valentine Chariots, with dolls seated within, centered the table. At each place were other chariots of smiliar design for favors. From the Chandelier above the table hung Valentine streamers decorated with red hearts. Occupying an important place on the table was a pretty white birthday cake with seven lighted red candles.
The children who enjoyed teh jolly party were Della Sharp, Kathleen Dorsey, Robert Cowan, Carmelita Girdler, Shirley Hoar, Irma Schmidtke, Jane Sales, Jane Ellen Clark, Lois Schone, Patty Jane Knight, Mary Jo Evans, Shirley Etter, Mary Strachan and Dorothy Whalley.

      Oroville Woman Killed in Wreck
      by Bill Short
An Oroville woman died and three other persons were injured yesterday when a northbound sedan swerved across the dirt divider of Highway 70 north of town and skidded sideways into an oncoming car.

Dead on arrival at Oroville Medical Center Hospital was Eldabeth Morganti, 60, 2380 Quincy Road, Apt 4. She was a passenger in the northbound car driven by Arthur Peter Petruske, 62, who lived in Apartment 2 at the same complex, the CHP said.

Petruske today was in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Medical Center with massive internal injuries, a hospital spokesman said.

One of two women injured in the other car was still hospitalized today. Mary Mike, 50, of Tonalea, Ariz., was in serious condition with possible head injuries, the spokesman said. The other woman, Bertha Jean, 26, of the same town, was treated for lesser injuries and released.

The CHP today was still investigating the 6:15 p.m. accident a half mile north of the Cottonwood overcrossing and said it would not make any conclusions until it received results of a blood alcohol test on Petruske. Officers said they noted a smell of alcoholic beverage on the man's breath.

The Officers said Perry Jean, 25, of Tonalea, was driving a 1973 Oldsmobile two-door southbound about 55 mph in the right hand lane, when Petruske's car, a 1973 AMC Matador four-door, suddenly "and for reasons unknown" slid across the dirt divider.

The front end of the Jean car, after leaving only 34 feet of skid marks, crashed into the side of th right rear fender on the Petruske car, which continued off the side of the freeway and slammed into a tree 32 feet from the edge of the road, the CHP investigators said.

The side of the car where MS. Morganti sat hit the tree. Both cars were considered a total loss, officers said.

A witness to the accident told officers she, too, was driving northbound, just north of town, and passed Petruske's car. She said it drove close behind her vehicle, and then dropped back. It was starting to approach from the rear again when it began swerving and suddenly veered across the divider, she said.

Arrangements for Ms. Morganit were pending at Oroville Funeral Home.
