Notes |
- Joe and Pearl had a 160 acre dry farm (no irrigation) due north of Calabasas where the Platt Ranch is now. Joe tried for years to get water piped onto his ranch, but was unsuccessful because he was outside of the city of Los Angeles. The Lee's ranch house used to sit on a hill and it had a big screened porch where Pearl would sit sewing. They had a pear orchard. They also lived in Fallbrook at one time.
Marie Mendenhall remembered her Uncle Joe as a friendly man. When she visited him at his ranch, he would always put her up on a horse. Aunt Pearl was beautiful, starched, with a perfect glowing smile.
The couple lived in Calabasas in 1910 and 1920.

RANCHER SUCCUMBS FROM HEART STROKE
Joeseph Lee 44, rancher, of 5503 Topanga Canyon avenue, Canoga Park, succumbed at his home early Saturday morning as the result of a heart attack.
Mrs. Pearl Lee, wife of the deceased, told police that her husband had been complaining of pains in the chest the day before.
Early Saturday morning Mrs. Lee stated that she was awakened by a gurgling sound and found her husband gasping for breath. After giving him smelling salts she called for aid.
Dr. J. M. Holt, family physician, was summoned and pronounced the man dead. The remains were removed to Shirrey & Walling mortuary.
